Movie Field Trip

Our class has been invited to go to the movie next Thursday at no cost to the student.  We plan to leave the school around 8:30 and should be back here by lunch.  If you would like to drive, please send me a note letting me know how many you can transport.  Also, some students have mentioned that they might not be coming to school on Thursday or Friday.  If you know your child won't be here, please send a note so I have enough transportation and  can let the theater know.

We are still collecting cans.  I am offering a homework pass for every 10 cans brought in.  The school as a whole is trying to be one of the top three schools in the AISA and if so, we get to put Mrs. Sikes on the roof for the entire day!  Right now, we have about 2300 cans collected.  We think it will take 4000+ to be in the top three so keep sending them in!

Christmas party info:

Our Christmas party will be Wednesday, December 18. 

We will be playing dirty Santa.  If you wish to participate, please bring a $10-$15 wrapped gift. Everyone will play together so if possible, bring a gift that is good for anyone. 

The class has decided that they want to order pizza for lunch.  It will cost $3 per person.  You can begin sending that in now. (Due by Monday)

I will let students sign up today for what they want to bring to the party.

The 5th and 6th graders made Christmas ornaments in Art and they are now boxed and ready for sale.  If you are interested in buying your child's ornament, please send $10 before December 16.  Checks should be made payable to PLAS.

The fifth grade is planning to help a family for Christmas through DHR.  We are asking for each student to bring a $5 donation to help with this project.

Schools dismisses at 12 on Friday and there is no after school.

There is no school next week due to Thanksgiving break.

I am sending information home today about the Vegetable and fruit sale. Sales begin today and go through December 1.

The can food drive has begun and will continue until January.  You can begin sending items in at any time.

Science Test

Due to unforeseen circumstances, the science test for both 5th and 6th grades has been changed and will NOT be tomorrow.  Sorry for the inconvenience.


Veteran's Day Program

The Veteran's Day Program will be Friday, November 8th.  All veterans and parents are invited to attend. Please invite anyone you know that is a veteran to the program which is at 10:00

There will also be a special breakfast which will begin at 9:00 and all Veterans are invited to attend. 

The students are asked to wear red, white and blue. (something that would be appropriate for church would be great!)

We want to look our best and let all of the men and women who have served how much we appreciate their sacrifices and give them a big THANK YOU!!!

A HUGE Thank you!!

Due to your generosity, our class filled four shoe boxes and raised the $28 to ship them!! :-) We even had items left over to donate to other boxes!!

The field trip was so much fun!  Thanks to the Senns/Carters for allowing us to come and for cooking all the meat.  Thanks to all the drivers, the daddies who baited hooks and took off fish, and to all who sent in goodies.  We couldn't have done it without you! Thank you, thank you, thank you!!

Halloween Party

We will be having our Halloween party this Thursday. Sheree Senn has agreed to have the fifth grade out to her cabin to cook out, fish and play games.  We will leave school around 11:30 and will be back by 3:00.  I will need drivers so if you are able to drive, please let me know. I also need volunteers to help bait hooks and take fish off :-).  

Sheree is providing all of the meat and drinks but I need volunteers for chips and dip, cookies, cupcakes, candy, etc.  If you would be willing to send any of these, please let me know.

If you have fishing poles and/or bait (bread, worms) you can bring them too.

Reminders:

Field trip tomorrow.  We plan to leave by 8:15 and return by 1:30.  Students and drivers need to bring a sack lunch, including a drink. We will not eat snack before we go, so be sure to eat breakfast.

Continue to bring in items for the Operation Shoebox. The last day is Friday, November 1.

Our fall festival will be Tuesday, October 29th.  The fifth and sixth grades are responsible for the 'The Country Store'.  We will need workers to work 30 minute slots.  The time for the festival is 6:00 to 8:00.  The slots fill up fast so email me or send me a note telling which slot you want to work.  
VERY IMPORTANT...  We will need things to sell at the Country Store.  What ever you decide to make and sell must be sent to school ready to sell.  That means priced and ready to go.  Things that have sold well in the past:
cookies, cakes, pies, candy, candy-apples,brownies, peanut brittle.  Any thing homemade like birdhouses to hair-bows.  
Be SURE and mark your item for the "Country Store" or it will get put in the "Cake Walk"!!! All items to be sold need to be sent to school the morning of the fall fest.

PLEASE READ: Field Trip

Parents:
In conjunction with the Forest in the Classroom activity that we participated in through the Extension Office, our fifth graders will be going on a field trip next Tuesday, October 22.  We are traveling to a farm on the Henderson Highway for some hands-on activities with other fifth graders in the area.  The program is from 8:30-1:00. We are in need of drivers for the trip.  If you are willing to drive, please send me an email or a note tomorrow letting me know how many students you can transport.  I will take drivers on a first come basis.  

Students/parents are to bring a sack lunch.  They will have water available during the day, but may want to bring something to drink with their lunch.

PTO BBQ Fundraiser

Parents,

The PTO is doing the BBQ fundraiser again this year.  ALL of the money raised will go towards purchasing mimeos and projectors for the classrooms.
I am sending home all info and your tickets in your child's folder today.  Please make sure that you get these. The deadline for turning in the money is Friday, Oct 4.

Grandparent's Day info

Parents:  We are sending home Grandparents Day invitations and a note today.  Please ask your child for this when you see them today.  

Note:  Grandparents Day will be Friday, September 27, for K-4 through grade 6th.  The program will begin at 10:00 for grades K-4 through 4th and at 11:00 for grades 5th -6th.  

The Book Fair will be in the library that day.  Grandparents may wish to take their grandchildren to the Book Fair to shop and are free to check them out to spend time with them on this "Special Day".  

Grandparents will need to check their grandchildren out through their homeroom teacher in the classroom BEFORE
 going to the Book Fair.   

Boys will need to wear a collar shirt ( like a polo) and khaki pants.  
Girls can wear their little sparkle dresses.

Special Note to Parents:

There will be a meeting to discuss our float this Sunday, September 8th at 3:00 pm at the school.  We will meet behind the lunchroom.  The trailer will be at the school for this meeting in order for us to be able to see and plan how to put the float together.  Please, please try to come to this meeting. We also need a sound system that is LOUD for us to use on the float.  If anyone has a system we could use, please let us know.  The sound system will go on the float or in the truck.

Homecoming

Homecoming notes:

The parade will be Thursday, Sept. 12th.  The parade will begin at 5:30 and will circle around from the front on the school and end behind the lunchroom.  All parents will need to be parked by 5:15 as roads  will be closed.  We must leave one lane of roads for emergency traffic.  The Sports boosters will sell concessions so that families may eat and attend the blackout pep rally which will begin at 7:00.  

(You may pre-order your meals if you would like.)
