Frozen Field trip is Friday. I will give you more information on times and details this week. Everyone is paid and we have enough drivers :-)

This week is "Read Across America" Week.  5th  graders do not actually participate in the reading activities that are set up but are welcome to dress for the themed days if they want to.
Monday - dress as your favorite Dr. Seuss character
Tuesday - Foxiest socks day (wear silly socks)
Wednesday - Wacky Wednesday (wear wacky, tacky clothing)
Thursday - Grinchiest green day - (may wear green but no camouflage)
Friday - Red and white day

We still have several students who have not made their AR goal.  It ends on March 13.  Please encourage your child to read and get those goals met.  We have had everyone in the class make their goal for first and second 9 weeks and I want them to all make it again! :-)

Yearbooks are now on sale and will be until March 13.  The cost is $50 and no extras will be ordered.

It looks as though we have enough interest in the Huntsville trip to get the extra bus and that means that all parents who would like to go should be able to.  I have gotten the deposit from most all students.  If you have not paid for your child, please do as soon as possible as it was due Friday.  Also,  I need to get a $10 deposit from all parents who want to go so that I can go ahead and reserve the bus.  If you could go ahead and get this to me, I would certainly appreciate it. :-)

Don't forget that next Friday (3/6) is the Frozen trip.

Thursday 2/26 is the State Science Fair and PLAS has 7 students who will be participating. :-)  If you are one of the participants, please let me know if you have a ride.  I have also sent home information about times and a map of Huntingdon College. You DO need to bring a table.

Kacie's mom will be bringing pizza and cupcakes for lunch on Thursday for her birthday. You are responsible for your own drink.

I will be at the science fair tomorrow (Wednesday) and Mrs. Arrington will be my sub.

Reminder that the money for the McWane field trip is due today.  If you haven't turned in, you can send on Thursday since I will be out tomorrow.

The $10 deposit for the Huntsville trip is due by Friday.  We have had a tremendous response to the trip so far and I am hoping to have enough to get a third bus.  If you are interested in chaperoning and have not told me, please let me know as soon as you can.  If we don't have enough participation to get another bus, then we will have to limit the number of chaperones and I don't want to have to do that :-)

We will have 4H on Thursday.  I did not have anyone who wanted to participate in the Public speaking contest.  If your child is interested, please let me know!  I'd love to have a participant.  The contest is Feb 24

Updates:

Huntsville trip - I have booked the field trip for May 11.  The exact cost will be determined when I know how many are going but it will be in the $70 range. I will need a $10 deposit by Friday, February 20 to reserve your spot on the bus.  I have sent a letter home with all students today giving you more information.
Also, at this point, I do not know how many chaperone spots we will have.  If you are interested, please send me a note or email (nferraro@pikelib.com) and let me know.  If we have enough, there is a possibility of opening an additional bus.

If you wish to donate to the Children's Hospital, tomorrow  (Feb 12) is the deadline.

Tomorrow is also the deadline for the money for the Frozen play.  It is $7 for students and $23 for drivers.

District is Wednesday, February 18 at Ashford Academy.  Please let me know if you are planning to go or if your child will need a ride.  You DO need to bring a card table.

We are going to see the Alabama Dance Company Presentation of "Frozen" on March 6 in Dothan.  I have several parents who have agreed to drive and I will be in touch with you. (I need 4 drivers) The cost is $23 for chaperones and $7 for students.  The deadline for all money is this Thursday, February 12.

Our Valentine's party will be on Friday.  Students have voted to do a "buffet" style party at lunch but no one has volunteered to bring in any real "food".  Since this will be their lunch, I can't have all desserts and chips. Please let me know by tomorrow what you will bring otherwise, we will change the party type.   We will also need to bring $1 for drinks.  If you choose to bring in individual bags or Valentine's to the class, please bring one for everyone.  We have 14 students.  I put the list in the folder today. (I also included Mrs. Rotton's class in case you need any of their names)

We are still collecting money for the Children's Hospital.  You can bring in change or bills and the one who brings in the most will be crowned King or Queen.  I only have a couple who have brought in donations. You can bring these in daily and we will keep a running total. Deadline is February 12.

The money for the McWane field trip is due by Tuesday, February 17th.  The cost is $42 for students and $37 for chaperones. (you can pay in 2 installments if you wish and the second one would be due by March 3) I have Nina Terry, Marilee Hussey, Theresa Porter, Amy Price, Tammy Calhoun, Mandie Baker and Paula Rushing signed up to go.

The SGA is selling cookie dough.  Your child should have brought home a packet with the order forms.  Prizes are awarded to top sellers. Also, the schools gets money for every booklet that you return filled out with names and addresses.

The Huntsville trip to the Space and Rocket Center is in the process of being finalized.  I am waiting on confirmation of a date. I will hopefully know later today. We will take a charter bus and so this will be a more expensive trip (probably around $70 ish per person) if you want to start saving a little :-)

6th GRADE PARENTS:
I have had several of you asking about what goes on the display board.  I am attaching a photo that shows a sample. Also, you do not need tables for the Pike Science Fair.  You do need them for District and State. Display Boards and Final Reports are due tomorrow, Friday, 2/6.  If you have extra items to display with your project, you can wait and bring those on Monday.
